Michael Christie MUSIC DIRECTOR Virginia G. Piper MUSIC Director Michael Christie returns for his third year as the Virginia G. Piper MUSIC Director of The Phoenix Symphony with the 2007-08 season. In additon, he continues his role during the summers as MUSIC director of the Colorado MUSIC Festival in Boulder, a position he has held since 2000. He also serves as the MUSIC Director of the Brooklyn Philharmonic. He served as chief conductor of the Queensland Orchestra in Australia from 2001-04, and continues to serve as Principal Guest Conductor for that orchestra this season. Mr. Christie has guest conducted many leading orchestras in Europe including the City of Birmingham Symphony, Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, and the Swedish Radio Symphony. From 1996-98, he was associate conductor of the Helsinki Philharmonic, and he has worked with all the major Finnish orchestras. In North America, Mr. Christie has conducted the symphony orchestras of Atlanta, Dallas, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Minnesota, St. Louis, and Vancouver, among many others. Recent performances include return engagements with many of these orchestras as well as the Luxembourg Philharmonic and Czech Philharmonic. He now has a custom guitar building shop in Hazleton, PA. His guitars are designed and engineered for Musicians with extreme playing styles, and also for collectors of fine handmade instruments. Mark Tenorio has been building and repairing Musical instruments professionally since 1987. He began his formal training in 1989 at the Roberto-Venn School of Lutherie. In January 1999, after many years of repairing guitars for five local Music stores, Mark & his wife Erin began their own business, TENORIO WERX. Seeking more knowledge in the construction of the Traditional Spanish Guitar, Mark and Erin attended the Jose Romanillos Master Guitar Building Class in Siguenza, Spain in August 2002. Joseph Bandy was a student in the Fall, 2001, class. He then set up a guitar-repair business near Amarillo, Texas. After spending a year-long apprenticeship in Oakland, California with luthier Ervin Somogyi, he was ready to start creating his own works in his own shop. K ent Hamblin built his first guitar in 1991 while attending R-V. After graduating, he went to work for Taylor Guitars, and then returned to Arizona to join the Phoenix Guitar Company. go in which order, where the music goes, what music goes there, etc. You'll need to plot your show, no matter what kind of show you do, unless, maybe you're doing table magic in restaurants. If that's the case, I recommend doing the routines that you think would be most appreciated at each table. Do a variety of routines, preferably not all card tricks or coin tricks, for instance. Also, in restaurants, you don't need as many routines. You can do the same tricks at one end of the restaurant that you just did at the other. For parlor shows, forty minutes of magic is pretty common. Start the show with one of your best routines, and end it strong also. If you have some weaker routines, or "time-fillers," put one of them between two strong routines. If you have two "fillers" together, I guarantee you'll lose the audience. You probably won't know the "fillers" from the "strong" routines until you've performed a few times, unfortunately. So keep that in mind as you go. Patter "Patter" is what you say while you're doing a magic trick or routine. If you do a silent routine to live music, you won't have to say much. Aside from that, you really have to take your patter seriously. A magician doesn't just get up and do magic tricks. A good magician is an entertainer. While the storyline is fictitious, the historical data included is entirely accurate. The murder mystery dinner show is suitable for up to 300 guests; however, if more than about 150-175 guests are included, body mics and additional staging are required. No set is needed, although many venues provide suitable backgrounds for the old West. The performance works with either a sit-down dinner or a buffet (if the buffet is broken up into segments so that there is action followed by dining, followed by action, etc.) Guests are encouraged to dress Western, but it is not necessary.
